A Clean Filter Makes for a Happy Ventilation System
Changing a filter in your ventilation system can typically be a quick and easy task, but it can make a huge difference. When the filter becomes clogged with dust, dirt, pet hair and other particles, it reduces airflow to your system, forcing it to work harder. This puts a drag on your energy efficiency, which drives up your energy bills. But it also wears out HVAC components faster, hastening along the need for repairs or replacement fans.
Different types of filters need to be changed at different intervals. Some filters are designed to last for one year, others are designed to last for up to three months, but they can still clog up early due to other factors in your home. Among the factors that contribute to frequent filter clogs are smoking in the home, using a wood fireplace, keeping indoor pets, recent interior construction and poor local air quality. Filters will also collect more particles when there are more people in the home, because many of those particles are dead skin cells.
When changing a filter, it’s important have a clean filter of the proper size. If you’re unsure of the size, the best way to find out is to check the filter that’s currently installed. Disposable filters usually have the dimensions printed on the frame. If you are unsure give us a call we will be able to help with your replacement filter.

We were excited to be involved with the IRHACE seminar held here in Christchurch, with guest speakers, Jean Le Roux Ministry for the Environment speaking on the Montreal Protocol and what this might mean for the HVAC&R industry, and Dave Nicholls IRHACE Councillor speaking on the impact of the Government's reliance upon the ETS scheme to achieve its obligations in its CO2 emission targets, both now and into the future.
In September 1987 45 countries, including New Zealand, signed The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. By 2009 it had been ratified by every country in the world. Widely hailed as the world's most successful environmental treaty ever, it has now eliminated over 98 per cent of identified ozone depleters – ahead of schedule.
This seminar was a interesting and lively debate on what the future holds for the use of refrigeration gases.
We took the opportunity to have a trade table to show off our new products especially our new inline mixed flow fans.

It felt like it would never happen, but the chill of winter is finally making its way into our homes. We all know damp homes are harder to heat, the mould and mildew that dampness encourages from the moisture in your home making for an uncomfortable environment to live in. but how do you stay warm this winter without wasting precious warmth and money.
A few common sense tips to a more economic warmer home.
Don't set your heat pump to a higher temperature than required. Selecting 35C in an effort to warm a room extra fast does not work - set the temperature you want and let the heat pump do the rest.
Every 3 months clean the filter on your indoor unit then inspect the outdoor unit to make sure it is free from debris.
Beware of companies selling expensive heat pump servicing, they often charge for a service you can perform yourself in a few minutes.
